At World Nuts, walnut processing is carried out using tailor-made machinery designed and built in-house, supported by expertise developed through years of experience in the industry. Every stage of the process is designed to ensure precision in cracking, preserve kernel integrity, and maximize the utilization of raw materials.
Our facility has a processing capacity of up to 60 metric tons of in-shell walnuts per day. The process includes raw material reception, inspection, and size grading, followed by cracking and the initial separation of walnut kernels from their shells.
World Nuts processes all cultivated walnut varieties, regardless of origin, adjusting processing parameters to the specific characteristics of each batch. Depending on the quality and characteristics of the raw material, the process can achieve up to 88–90% walnut halves (1/2) as a proportion of total kernel output, with a focus on preserving intact kernels and minimizing breakage and surface damage.
Technology & Precision in Processing
After cracking, the product passes through successive mechanical cleaning stages, where the initial separation of walnut kernels from their shells takes place. Specialized sorting and aspiration systems remove shell fragments and foreign materials. This step-by-step process minimizes mechanical stress on the kernels and prepares the product for size grading and subsequent quality sorting stages.
Walnut Kernel Separation & Utilization
Following the initial cleaning stage, walnut kernels pass through separation and grading systems, where they are classified into 1/2 (halves), 1/4 (quarters), and 1/8 (eighths) according to their size and shape. Each category follows a separate processing line for additional cleaning and the removal of residual shell fragments and foreign materials. This process improves product uniformity and enables efficient utilization of the walnut kernels before the subsequent optical sorting and quality control stages.
